Keep the receipt tied to a real payment
The receipt marks the total as Amount paid. For an unpaid amount, use an invoice. For a deposit, describe the payment as a deposit and record only the amount received; explain any remaining balance in Notes.
Include a related invoice or order number in Notes to help match the records. Avoid adding a full card number, bank password, or other sensitive payment information.
