An estimate is useful when a customer wants a likely price but the final work may change. It helps both sides see the expected items and costs before work begins.
Make it in CreateBizDocs
- Choose Estimate and enter an estimate number, issue date, and “Valid until” date.
- Add your business details and the customer’s details so the estimate can be identified later.
- Break the expected work into line items. Describe each service or product in plain language and enter the expected quantity and rate.
- Add any expected discount or tax. Use Notes or Terms to explain assumptions, exclusions, or what could change the final price.
- Check the preview and download the PDF. Save a draft if you may revise the scope after speaking with the customer.
Example
A painter could estimate two rooms, list labor and materials separately, and note that wall repairs discovered later would be priced separately.
Check it before sharing
Make the scope specific enough for the customer to understand what is included. Verify dates and totals, and label uncertain quantities clearly.
If you need a firm offer at a fixed price, a quote may be a better starting point. The meaning of these documents can vary by business and agreement.
